Family-friendly spots set to offer free admission and specials for Mother’s Day

You’re in luck! To help you celebrate with mom, I’ve put together a list of some fun (and a few free-for-mom) activities, all of which take place on May 13.

Old Westbury Gardens. With 200 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes, take mom for a stroll in the gardens; or on a self-guided tour of The Westbury House, a Charles II-style mansion, furnished with English antiques and decorative arts. All women, ages 18 and older, will receive a complimentary lavender plant (while supply lasts). The gardens are open, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at 71 Old Westbury Road. Mother’s Day Tea at Sands Point Preserve. Bring mom for some afternoon snacks, like scones and finger sandwiches, at the Hempstead House, a Tudor-style castle that overlooks the Long Island Sound. You and mom can tour the house and the Rose Gardens – she’ll feel like she’s back in “The Great Gatsby” era. The afternoon tea, which also features live chamber music, takes place, from 3-4 p.m., at 127 Middle Neck Road. Fee. 516-571-7901. sandspointpreserveconservancy.org.
