Author Flanagan Brosky shares ghostly encounters of the LI kind

If you have often wondered whether some of the island’s landmarks have eerie stories to tell, Kerriann Flanagan Brosky, author of “Historic Haunts of Long Island,” will keep you spellbound with the “ghost” stories she has to tell, as her book explores haunts on a local scale. And, Flanagan Brosky, who is an award-winning author and historian, is scheduled to discuss and sign this book on Oct. 15, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Malverne Historical Society.

“JAC’s”-o’-lanterns pick brightens your October weekends

If you have ever been near Old Westbury Gardens on an October weekend, you may have seen have seen the nighttime illuminated with a glow – the direct result of thousands of hand-carved, lit jack-o’-lanterns created for RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns. For those Long Islanders that have never been to this annual pumpkin feast-for-the-eyes, don’t fret; you are not alone. I, too, will be attending for the first time! You can experience this magical event Fridays through Sundays (with Oct. 20 and 27 available, as well), from Oct. 7-30.

An apple fest this Sunday keeps boredom at bay

While things like pumpkin-spiced lattes and snuggly sweaters are coveted during the fall, the season’s ripe-for-picking fruit – apples – are high on our favorites list, too! So, set your GPS for the Sherwood-Jayne Farm in East Setauket, the site for the 27th annual Apple Festival, held from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m., on Sept. 25.
